Dr (TCM) Attilio D'Alberto has devoted over 25 years of clinical practice to helping couples achieve parenthood through traditional Chinese medicine — developing one of the most comprehensive fertility acupuncture specialisms in the UK.
Fertility has been the central focus of Dr D'Alberto's clinical career since he began practising in 2004. Over 25 years he has developed an exceptionally deep understanding of the reproductive health challenges faced by couples — female hormonal conditions, structural factors, male fertility issues, the demands of IVF protocols and the emotional weight that all of these carry.
This specialisation is reflected in his published work. My Fertility Guide draws on his clinical experience to provide couples with a comprehensive, practical guide to using TCM to improve their fertility. My Pregnancy Guide extends this support into pregnancy itself, addressing the common challenges of the gestational period from a TCM perspective.
Dr D'Alberto trained at Beijing University in China — completing a rigorous five-year undergraduate programme that encompassed TCM acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, classical theory, dietary therapy and Tui Na. The degree he holds is one of the most demanding TCM qualifications available anywhere in the world, equivalent in depth and clinical exposure to a Western medical degree.
Since graduating in 2004, he has been in continuous clinical practice in Berkshire, building a practice with a particular focus on fertility, reproductive health and the conditions — PCOS, endometriosis, hormonal imbalance, male infertility — that lie at the intersection of TCM's greatest clinical strengths.
Every couple I see has already been through a great deal. My role is to listen carefully, diagnose accurately and provide treatment that gives the best possible chance of a successful outcome — whether naturally or through IVF.
Dr D'Alberto's approach is built on three principles: thorough diagnosis, individualised treatment and honest communication. He will never commit a couple to a treatment plan without a clear clinical rationale, and will always explain what TCM can and cannot offer for their specific situation. He views his role as a partner in each couple's fertility journey — not simply a treatment provider.
Where TCM and conventional fertility treatment overlap — as they do most significantly in IVF support — he works to ensure that his treatment plan complements and enhances the conventional protocol rather than conflicting with it. He has extensive experience working with patients undergoing IVF, IUI and ICSI across all the major fertility clinics in the Berkshire area.
Initial appointments last around an hour. Dr D'Alberto will take a full fertility history — covering your menstrual cycle, medical investigations, previous treatments, lifestyle and emotional experience of the journey so far. He will perform a TCM assessment using tongue and pulse diagnosis and use everything gathered to build a detailed TCM diagnosis and personalised treatment plan.
Most patients begin treatment at the first session. Follow-up appointments last 45–60 minutes and allow for reassessment and ongoing refinement of your treatment as the cycle progresses.
